Susucaru Rosé, Cornelissen - 2023

A transparent expression of terroir should be the goal of any vigneron, but very few are as obsessive with this goal as Frank Cornelissen. Given this obsession, it is easy to see why when touring the northern valley of Mount Etna, one of the most famous active volcanoes in the world, and home to incredible terroir. The diversity of volcanic soils on the northern valley of Etna are second to none, with layers of hardened ash, lava, & sand. Frank is not Sicilian (he is Belgian) but deliberately chose this land due to its uniqueness. In his early days the goal was to produce "liquid stone" as he called it, the truest representation of Etna terroir. His most iconic wine is aptly named Magma! This philosophy leads us to the more affordable Susucaru Rosé, a blend of red and white grapes that possesses an edginess that you have to experience.
