Montée de Tonnerre is situated to the southeast of Chablis continuous block of grand cru vineyards and shares the same geological profile. Of the appellation’s premier crus, Montée has the greatest proportion of Kimmeridgian chalk, leading to excessively austere chardonnay, perhaps the most cerebral in the region. These are noted for harmonious maturation, gaining weight and depth as they age. 2000 was an ideal vintage throughout Burgundy. This serious Chablis is sunshine citrus, with an assault of stoniness, crushed oyster shell, balanced with layers of honeyed grapefruit. At a perfect moment in its evolution....
