Staff Pick Notes

In 1984, Arturo Pelizzatti Perego decided to resurrect his family's winery in Valtellina under the moniker Ar. Pe. Pe. Today, Arturo's three children, Isabella, Emanuele and Guido continue their father’s work as the family's 5th generation. Valtellina sits in picturesque mountain region near the border with Switzerland; the primary grape variety there is Chivanesca, better known as Nebbiolo. Unlike the famous Barolo region, in Valtellina the soil is loose and sandy, but the mineral content remains outstanding. This is largely the reason that Valetlina Nebbiolo remains fresher and more nimble with fruit. 'Rocca de Piro' is a vibrant red wine playing both to the aromatic tobacco and spice notes and classic fruit notes of dried cherry, strawberry, and rose. Tannin is smooth and mature beyond it's years.
