Staff Pick Notes

A fantastic Northern Rhone wine from the traditional and brilliant Cornas producer Domaine Lionnet. Cornas meaning "scorched earth" in the language of the Celts, implies the region has always been hot. Visiting Cornas you quickly realize you are dealing with serious slopes and in fact most of the appellation is planted on slopes. Lionnet believe in and practise whole bunch and natural yeast fermentation and basically hands off wine making. The result is a wonderful Red berry spiced raspberry nose with defined forest floor aspects. The palate is wonderfully full in fruit, with peppery red berries and great earthy tones. All are held together with excellent soft and approachable tannic structure. A beautiful wine well worth the money. Cheers Stephen W.

Let it never be said, however, that Shiraz and Syrah are the same thing: the region in which the grape is grown determines much about the flavor of the wine it will produce. Typically, New World Shiraz yields bigger, fruitier wines than the the peppery Syrahs...
