Production Methods

Practicing Organic

Wine made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides in the vineyard.

Orange Wine (Skin Contact)

Orange wine is made by using white wine grapes, which are pressed and left in contact with the skins, seeds, and stems for an extended period of time, similar to how red wine is made.

This prolonged maceration extracts color, tannins, and phenols, giving the wine a darker, sometimes orange color. It also produces a wine with more structure and intense flavor.

Maceration times can vary between a few hours to many months, with longer contact giving more color and extraction.

Staff Pick Notes

Ohhhhohoho baby. Yes, I’m smitten. Usually I start with some nerdy backstory about appellations and varietal characteristics… uh, nope. This time it’s just giggles and gaping "m'aws." This wine is everything that can go right with prolonged skin contact. Vernaccia from San Gimignano is not strictly a white grape: its golden hue is damasked with pink. When macerated at length, the skins imbue this brightly acidic wine with a body and depth of flavor that is absolutely glorious. Cannabis, musk, candied lemon peel, almonds, hay are just the beginning. Chill it, but don’t drink it ice cold. Pair it with everything from legumes to liver, but by golly give it a try.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano shows the softer side of the grape, containing up to 20% of other varieties. Young Chianti often smells of fresh fruit and herbs, while Chianti Classico Riserva can be dark and brooding. The term “Super Tuscans”...
