Petite Arvine "Vigne Rovettaz", Grosjean Frères - 2021

750 mL
Item # 21700

This is a wine that could well cause swooning. The nose is mellow, honeyed, and somewhat reminiscent of an Alsatian Pinot Gris. The palate is dense and a touch viscous with lots of ripe, almost waxy fruit, and exquisite balance. The wine changes as it's exposed to oxygen. Be ready for complexity.

Staff Pick Notes

The Vallée d'Aoste is the smallest region in all of Italy, with the highest peaks to match. Despite its small size and the difficult growing conditions, the amount of quality wine produced here is indeed impressive. Bordering both France and Switzerland, it shares many of the grapes found more commonly in these two countries. This Petite Arvine is much more associated with the Valais region of Switzerland, where it is almost exclusively grown. Grosjean Frères has been producing wine here commercially since the late '60s, but making wine for themselves much longer. The rich texture is paired with ripe fruit, honey, beeswax, a touch almond and some spice to round things out. Aged both in French oak barriques and in stainless steel, these are blended before bottling. This wine is simply delicious and a great value!
