Vinho Verde, Broadbent - NV

Item # 21500 750 mL

This white shows floral fruit, lime, and green freshness on the nose and palate. Overall, it's lightly fizzy and possessed of zippy acidity; you'll want to have a plate of shellfish on hand when you open this wine.

Staff Pick Notes

This is about the easiest a bottle of wine can get. Back in my college days (was I ever that young?), I used to buy this wine from a now-defunct wine shop because they reliably never checked my ID (I wasn't old enough) and it was just about all I could afford. Featherweight in body (only 9% ABV) and with the just the lightest bit of fizz, this wine can fit any occasion like a cheap suit fits a bad car salesman. Broadbent is a major player in the world wine trade, and as such, do not need my explicit support. But when the apocalypse comes, I simply don't want to be standing against them or their Vinho Verde. Do you? JA

Pairing Advice

Kohlrabi, Carrot, and Radish Slaw We love this delicious, seasonal take on a classic coleslaw, and the subtle spritziness of this Vinho Verde will cleanse the palate from the mayonnaise-based sauce. Find the recipe on our blog, www.tastingnotesnyc.com.

About the Producer

Costa Verde, Portugal Vinho Verde is produced in Portugal’s Northwest region, the Costa Verde. This verdant region extends from the Vale da Cambra south of the river Douro to the Minho, which forms the frontier with Spain over 130 km to the north. Originally known for rough and ready, tart, high-pitched wines, the cool climate and rain-bearing westerly winds keeps this area cool and damp. This...

They also show their terroir quite clearly, and represent a great alternative to the modern fruit-driven style. Vinho Verde is Portugal’s most famous white wine. Literally translated as "green wine," it...
