Staff Pick Notes

The James Webb telescope is looking back through time, sending images that change the way we view the universe. Through the lens of this wine, the way I view Zinfandel has changed. This is not a too-sweet jam fest that I’ve often found Cali Zin to be. It's got an old world sensibility and restrained style that really allows it to focus on an incredible purity of fruit. Even the 2014 Napa earthquake that happened during the harvest did not disturb the intense mountain fruit flavors, super fresh acidity, and balanced tannins that this wine effortlessly offers up. Ripe plum, blackberry, and a bit of smoke lead us to an earthy, medium-bodied palate with raspberry jam and pepper. Never thought I’d enjoy a Zinfandel in the dog days of August, but this one crushed it.
