Staff Pick Notes

The Cetto family originally comes from northern Italy, near Trento. Making wine in Mexico for several generations now, it's no surprise they grow varieties you wouldn't expect there, like Nebbiolo and Petite Sirah, and do it well. Sandy, well-drained soils and the dry climate in Baja California are well-suited to viticulture, and make for healthy vines whose roots dig deep into the soil. The days are hot and sunny, but the influence of the Pacific ocean provides cool nights and protection from unduly harsh conditions. The Petite Sirah is medium weight, textured with glycerol and approachable tannin, with full fruit and earthier aromas that finish on cedar and a lot of spice. It spends 6 months in French oak and is an incredible food wine, especially when paired with barbecue, seasoned hamburgers, or grilled mushrooms.
