Chénas, Christophe Pacalet - 2022

Item # 17123 750 mL

The northern part of Beaujolais is divided into ten "Crus," the smallest of which is known as Chénas. Christophe Pacalet's Chénas bottling, made from Gamay, is a touch gamey, with pure aromas of freshly crushed mixed berries. This is a wine that cries out for food.

Staff Pick Notes

Ah Beaujolais, a grape that is now producing some of the most popular (and some might argue the best) low intervention wines in the world right now. Christophe Pacalet truly is honing in this style beautifully with this expression from Chenas. After 5 years of being a chef in the restaurant industry, he decided to learn winemaking from his uncle Marcel Lapierre who we know as Beaujolais royalty. He is continuing a dedication to terroir driven wines with gorgeous character, sourcing grapes from all over Beaujolais, hand harvesting them himself and with a small dedicated team. Expect aromatics of a forest floor after the rain, tart red cherries and cranberries. Slightly fruity on the palate with a dry earthy finish. Drink with a salty cured meat.

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. In Chablis, Chardonnay is left unoaked to produce lean, crisp, steely wines with incredible acidity - a far cry from the vanilla-oak bombs that so many consumers associate with this grape. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....

Beaujolais

Beaujolais is the classic expression of the Gamay grape. These red wines (labeled simply “Beaujolais”) are approachable, grapey, and fun – ideal for low-pressure sipping. Beaujolais-Villages is a step up. Compared to basic Beaujolais, the rules for Beaujolais-Villages wines are more strict. Villages wine is produced in far smaller quantities. Beaujolais Nouveau is perhaps the most gulpable wine made anywhere, and it should be drunk very soon after its release, which occurs each year on the...
