Staff Pick Notes

This is a very pleasant, juicy Sauvignon Blanc from Trentino Alto Adige, a region on the north east side of Italy, mainly famous for its beautiful mountains but also its fresh wines. This area is an ideal place to grow vines: the mountains, on the north, protect the area from the cold winds, while, from the south warm air from the Mediterranean sea benefits the vineyards. The grapes are manually harvested and fermentation happens in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine is aged on its lees for 7 months. On the nose you can notice stone fruit and passion fruit. On the palate yellow apple flavors are noticeable followed by a pleasant minerality. Delicious by itself, It's a versatile wine: I paired it with smoked fish and the combination was excellent.

Cat pee aside, Sauvignon Blanc (sometimes called "Fumé Blanc" in California) is a bit of a chameleon in terms of style, and quite utterly at the whim of the winemaker. Some are fermented in barrel, others in stainless steel. Some...
