Penisola Sorrentina "Gragnano", Monteleone - 2023

Item # 13968 750 mL

A distinctive sparkling red wine made from the Piedirosso grape. Dry and bubbly on the palate, this shows dark berry fruit - cherries and red currants - and a slight tannic finish. Best enjoyed with a slight chill, this is a great match with pizza.

Staff Pick Notes

This wine is a star element in my favorite way to spend a night in. Other parts will include a good movie or show that I watch on the couch with homemade pizza. Gragnano is a delightful accompaniment to pizza. It's made from Piedirosso and Aglianico and is sparkling, dry, and full of lovely dark fruits like black and red cherries. It comes in at just 10.5% alcohol, which is great because it is so easy to drink! Like Champagne, you should keep a bottle on hand since you never know when you will want to cancel your plans and stay home with Gragnano instead!

Pairing Advice

Few things go well with both tomato sauce and cheese - but there are a few Italian grapes that can perform this feat (luckily for the Italians). Piedirosso, the red grape that goes into this red wine, is perfect with tomato sauce and the bubbles in this gently sparkling wine create a refreshing counterpoint to the cheese.
