This is a bold red wine made from bush-trained Negroamaro grapes from the Salento region of Apulia. The soils are full of stones and chalk and the fruit was hand-harvested then fermented in large Slavonian oak casks. After, the wine was aged in French barriques adding a spicy, oaked aroma to this complex red wine.

Staff Pick Notes

This negroamaro from Salento in Apulia does not mess around. Coming in at 15% ABV, it asserts itself right away with deep flavors of blackberries, plums, and black cherries, but also shows remarkable depth and complexity. Tannins are present but decidedly smooth. Hints of black pepper, clove, licorice, and tobacco all round out what is an assuredly a bold but luxuriously spicy red. This would go great with some steak pizzaiola or beef braciole, but I had it with chorizo and beef tongue tacos while listening to the hits of Ronnie James Dio and it was deviously divine. A truly badass wine that's one of my favorite finds of the year so far.
