Ardbeg Wee Beastie Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Item # 42406 750 mL

One thing we know to be true is that if you like peat in your whisky then you know it shines especially well in a youthful dram. Ardbeg, the legendary Islay distillery that is famed for their bold, unflinching embrace of Islay flavors as well as pioneering excellent non-age statement whiskies puts its money where its mouth is in this 5yr, high proof fully peated single malt. We found notes that reminded us of seaweed butter, fresh rosemary, grilled apples, preserved limes, heather, sea salt infused bitter chocolate and roasted almonds. Available in very limited quantities for the time being.

Staff Pick Notes

Looking to dip into the world of Islay whisky, but feeling intimidated by the peat and brine you associate with the region? Then this dram is your ideal entry. And the name is quite fitting for multiple reasons. Wee as in youthful, since this creature is just five years young. If you are familiar with Ardbeg's unabashed commitment to the Islay style then you know they make some smoky monsters, but this little beastie is definitely more tame...it conjures images of "Where the Wild Things Are" more than "Nightmare on Elm Street" if you get my drift. The nose shows the medicinal, peaty, and peppery side of things. The aromas are tempered by Oloroso Sherry cask influence and a bit of green apple. The finish is legitimately tongue-tingling. Nothing to be afraid of here!

With the Parliament’s passing of the “Excise Act” in 1824, licensing fees for distilleries were much cheaper. Distilleries started to take out licenses, and since then, the distillation industry in Scotland has been continuously expanding....
